Regional SOM surveys

Have you been selected for the SOM survey in Skåne?

In 2015, the SOM survey in Skåne is being conducted for the sixth time since 2001. It targets 8000 randomly selected individuals aged 16–85 living in Skåne County.

The survey is sent to the respondents via mail as a paper questionnaire. There is also an online version of the survey which is available in both English and Swedish. Your username and login can be found at the bottom of the last letter you received from us, next to the orange arrow:

The SOM survey in West Sweden

The survey has been conducted yearly since 1992. Each year, 6000 randomly selected individuals aged 16–85 receive the questionnaire for the SOM survey in West Sweden. The survey was initially limited to residents of Gothenburg and its surrounding municipalities. In 1998, the survey was extended to include the entire Västra Götaland County plus the municipality of Kungsbacka.

Background

The regional surveys focus on analysing society, opinions and mass media in each region. The SOM survey in Västra Götaland is conducted yearly, while the SOM surveys in Skåne and Värmland are a bit more irregular.

The purpose of the regional surveys is to enable SOM researchers to study attitudes and behaviour linked to local and regional issues. They emphasise public services and media, although many of the questions are identical with those used in National SOM in order to make the answers comparable both between the regions and with Sweden at large.

The regional surveys include between 6000 and 8000 randomly selected individuals from each region.

Adding data from several years enables researchers to analyse single municipalities. This comes in handy if the goal is to analyse for example the quality of public services in a certain area or how community residents feel about their local media.

Results

The results of the surveys are published yearly by the SOM Institute. The SOM Institute also publishes a large number of reports on a variety of topics. All publications are made available (in Swedish) via the SOM Institute’s website.

Data from the surveys is available through Swedish National Data Service.
