Method development; an important task

It is the ambition of the SOM Institute to contribute to the general development of survey methods.

The SOM Institute carefully analyses the level of representativeness of each study, partly due to the falling overall response rate observed for all types of surveys.

The analyses of the yearly studies help the researchers determine which measures need to be taken to reduce non-response. The yearly SOM publications include method descriptions that explain the data collection procedures in detail.

The SOM Institute also strives to contribute to the development of methods more generally. Together with the Laboratory of Opinion Research the SOM instiute is releasing a book that addresses the topics of preparation, methodology and conduction of quantitative surveys. The book is planned for release in late 2016.
