Welcome to the SOM Institute

The SOM Institute has conducted surveys to collect research data and presented annual trend analyses on public opinion and media habits in Sweden since 1986. The Institute's analyses are often referred to in the public debate in Sweden and are used to form many important decisions influencing Swedish society.

Every year, the SOM Institute conducts a number of independent studies – nationally, regionally and locally – in an effort to identify changes in the ways Swedes behave and feel about different things and why these changes occur.

Have you received one of our surveys?

Every year, more than 30 000 people living in Sweden, between the ages 16 to 85 years, are randomly selected to participate in the SOM surveys. If you recieve one of our questionnaires in the mail, we would be most grateful if you would take some time to fill it out.

More information about your participation.

About the SOM institute

Over more than 30 years of work the SOM institute has gathered a unique amount of comparable data on and analyses of the Swedish people. Several of our time series go back to the first year of the surveys in 1986. Making the data accessible to anybody interested in the findings is important to the SOM institute.

Most SOM analyses have been published in various widely available publications. Most of them are written in Swedish, but some reports are also available in english.
