Surveys involving external actors

The SOM Institute has a tradition of broad interaction with society at large. A large number of actors from both the private and the public sector have carried out research projects based on questions linked to the annual surveys.

Most SOM surveys are based on research projects at various higher education institutions, but other actors are frequently involved as well. All such projects must harmonise with SOM’s focus on society, opinions and media. Studies with a long-term perspective are given the highest priority.

The list of external actors that have collaborated or are collaborating with the SOM Institute includes public authorities such as Region Västra Götaland, Region Skåne, the Swedish Public Employment Service, Riksbanken (the Swedish Central Bank), the Swedish Arts Council, the Swedish Security Service and the Energy Authority ; media organisations such as the Swedish public television broadcaster SVT and the two newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten; major companies such as SKF and Systembolaget; plus organisations such as the Church of Sweden.

Anybody who is interested in conducting a study in collaboration with the SOM Institute is welcome to contact us. The project needs to be research oriented and compatible with the profile of the SOM Institute. The Institute takes an active part in formulating the survey questions that the participating projects would like to ask and is responsible for the final design of the questionnaires.

All collected data is made available to other researchers and to the public within a year of completion of the survey, by the Swedish National Data Service.

If you are interested in collaborating with the SOM Institute please send us an e-mail and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
