Refinement of data

The SOM Institute's database, dating back to 1986, is unique in the world. Through a project funded by Swedish research foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond the SOM Institute has refined, documented and merged data from its last 30 years of surveys into one dataset, providing unique data in a highly accessible format.

The SOM Institute Cumulative Dataset is available for researchers and students from Swedish National Data Service.

The technical documentation includes information about the data collection and about the context of the questions asked. There is also an extensive documentation on how different questions have varied over the years: question texts, response alternatives, scales and so on. Internationalisation implies both translation of questionnaires and variables and a description of the Swedish context in which the responses were retrieved.

The two-year project was funded by the Swedish research foundation Riksbankens jubileumsfond, and took place 2011 and 2013. Initiatiors were senior researchers Lennart Weibull and Sören Holmberg, and the project manager was Johan Martinsson, Ph.d.
